Alvin and Seven reporting in ;)
MY name is Alvin, i have a one-eyed puppy shih-tzu named Seven.
===========update July 15 2008 2:12am========
Seven's Story
I suddenly remember someone asked me about why I have chosen Seven instead of other breeds.
I can’t remember if I have already answered that but I kinda feel like answering again.
Well I didn’t choose Seven. Not as in "eh I want a dog, let's pick this" kinda choose.
Even at the moment I brought Seven home, my knowledge of dogs were no more than how much I know about the entertainment industry, which is like, pathetically little. I didn’t even know back then dogs come in different breeds, let alone knowing Seven is a shih tzu (coz never seen a proper cared shih tzu in my life)
Seven was the last litter of my aunt's dog, a pair of shih tzus that are given by her relatives (also my relatives but heck there's too many I dun really know them all), for my aunt dogs were dogs, they were meant to watch the house, guard the gates, and we feed them, and they shut up when we dun want them to bark. For my aunts dogs were something that runs out of the house if you left the gate open, and would dirty the house if you let them in.
When I first saw Seven she was only a week old, she has already lost 3 of her siblings and herself wasn’t doing much good either. to be honest I didn’t have my eyes on Seven, actually I was not even thinking of keeping a dog at home coz I stay in a condo, every time I said I want a dog I didn’t mean it. And at that time Seven's brother which was the dominant male in the litter was doing much better than she did, as you know those are the puppies that easily catch ppl's eyes coz they look healthier and cuter.
it was not another 2 weeks passed before I saw Seven again and this time she was alone in her mother's cage coz her brother was already taken away by my aunt's neighbor’s kid, well basically was snapped away coz the kid saw the healthy fatty cute male puppy and straight away feel in love with him, as how kids usually fall in love with toys. Seven was left alone in her cage as if she was lifeless, lonely and she really dun seems will survive for another week.
As I touched her she woke up and was in search for milk in desperation. Which shown the fact that she was extremely hungry. I could also saw the she was severely undersized if compared to her only surviving sibling. After some thinking I kinda figured out it was the environment that was killing her, plus Seven's mother did not have much milk and did not seem to know how to keep her puppy alive. that was the first time I thought I might wanna take the remaining puppy, you know, just as a good deed, coz I serious did not think I could do any better than her mother in taking care of her.
On that same weekend I visited my grandpa's house again and that was the day I suddenly made up my mind that I wanted to bring her home. I was like "ok I want this puppy", so I stood up, I told my aunt, since the puppy was dying anyway, she didn’t think much before she agrees.
then I stood up, drove to a petsmore shop nearby, bought a cage, some puppy milk powder, a bottle of frontline, a toy (oh gosh what kind of 3 weeks old puppy needs a toy)
Then I went to do some research desperately, coz I only realized how weak seven is AFTER I started to live with her in the first night. I had to wake up and feed her every 2 hours coz she couldn’t drink much milk and was incredibly weak. And I ended up with no sleep. The next morning I skipped all work which had me ended up in a bombardment of telephone calls.
another scary thing about her the next morning is I only realized there were so many bumpy dots on her body when I carry her for a while to examine her for ticks, coz I knew that my where Seven used to live was not that clean. But I was not nearly ready for what I was about to find out. All those bumpy stuffs I mentioned about, each bump represent one tick that was big enough for my fingers to feel them. And there were lots! As in, all over the body! So I started doing the old way, combing them out with a tick comb. then as I was doing it, after 2 hours or so my neck soared terribly, the number has been so many that I even lost count, I could only roughly estimated more than 120-150 judging from the spots on the huge kitchen tissue that I squashed them on. And I used half a dozen of pieces. I thought it was the end after I couldn’t comb big ones out anymore, but then as I examined closer under her fur, I almost screamed.
There were CLUSTERS of baby ticks hatching below her arm pit (well if you get what I mean by arm pit), her neck, her forehead, around her butt area, between her tiny toes.... ooohhhh mmeeeeee gooodiieeeenesssss
No wonder she was so damn restless during sleep. 1 whole day I spent merely to get rid of the ticks, and after that whole day it wasn’t quite that clean, it was a continuous effort in the coming months to get rid of ticks completely. But that night, she slept soundly; I can tell she never had such a good sleep before ever in her life. I kinda felt some bond to her there.
But that was only the first day.
Seven was too weak. it was obvious that she was too weak becoz she cant even drink milk properly, every time I feed her milk I had to let her drink slowly becoz she drank in such a desperate manner that she'd get herself choked. And she was having fever, the worst thing was, I didn’t know she was having fever. I only found out later as I read more about dogs and diseases. I guess I got lucky. There were a few times seven passed out when she was drinking milk, either she suffocated or she was just too weak, I had to massage her lungs in desperation but thank whatever spirit that was out there that it actually worked. There’s about half a dozen occasions that it happened, but I’m glad that those things reduced as she grew healthier, but apparently not healthy enough.
A few days later we found out that Seven’s right eye has swollen so badly it looks like there’s a marble inside her eyes. So we took her to the vet in Ikano as we didn’t know any better ones around, that was the first vet I visit in my life. The lady vet gave me a “hopeless” look from the start and told me not to have too much hope coz my puppy is going to become blind 80% for sure. We weren’t happy of coz… but since she’s the vet and since she said so I didn’t have enough knowledge to argue with her, I just decided that the next day I’m going to bring her to the Animal Medical Center. The lady vet gave seven’s swollen eye some cream or some medication, charged me RM80 and told me to go home.
That was the day Seven lost her eye.
We went home and it was Seven’s meal time, so I set her down by her cage and went to make her some milk. As I turn around tragedy strikes, even before I managed to walk out of my room Seven let out a loud cry of pain. I turn and saw her front paws with lots of blood, as well as her face. Not sure how much you guys could feel my panic but at that moment my panic was spelled like this ====>> P-A-N-I-C x 100
I didn’t even know how to clear the wound… so I had my mom help me wipe the surrounding of the wound to clear the blood, while I find out what was the address of the Animal Medical Center HQ at Jalan Tun Razak. When I got back from phone I made another shocking discovery… I found one tiny little soft transparent ball object at where Seven was hurt, later we found out that was Seven’s lens in the eye which fell out after she pierced her eyeball…
I called the AMC to tell them this emergency… and of coz we rush to the place ASAP. The Eye Specialist there (I didn’t know even vets have specialists) cleared Seven’s wound, bandaged her and gave her a cone so that she wont be able to touch her wound again. Then he told me that he merely cleared the wound but nothing more can be done at the moment. Coz Seven was only 3 weeks old and she was not strong enough for any sort of surgery, as even a little bit of anesthetic can kill her as her internal organs are not fully developed. So he told me that we need to wait for 1 more week and come back, and hope that Seven was strong enough to withstand a surgery to remove her broken eyeball. Before we left he also warned that puppies are very vulnerable to stress, and losing an eye is considered as a major stress, and it’s very likely that Seven would not eat and might die due to excessive lost of blood, and refusing to eat. To be honest, that freaked me out, coz I really wanted to save this little fella.
Luckily appetite was never a problem for little Seven, she always ate like there’s no tmrw as she did before she got injured, and that helped a lot. A week later the doctor told us it was not ideal but she might has a chance to survive the surgery but we should not keep our hopes high… well it wasn’t that pleasant to hear it but leaving her there for the surgery was the only thing I could do at that time. So I did, and went home. The handsome vet promised me that he would give me a call right after the surgery was done the next day, and he did. Seven made it and was recovering well. I think only myself knew how relieved it felt.
From there on it was smooth sailing… sometimes some small problems here and there but everything was getting better for her as she grew healthier. The tick problem made us fought quite a bit but eventually we got rid of it.
And tadah, that was Seven’s story.
May not be an interesting read but it would be so kind of you that actually read until this part.
Sorry for the spellings and grammar but I really dun want to do a proof read… lazy… kekeke

Re: Alvin and Seven reporting in ;)
Seven went to the newly opened groomer in NZX today... she did some nail cutting, eye area hair cut, and trimmed the feet.
but after we come back... something weird happened with Seven...
She's. like... every 1 or 2 steps she will quickly jump or sit to remove her hind legs from the ground... exactly like how we react when we feel ticklish...
we came back since 8pm, until now she's still like feeling very ticklish with her hind legs... dunno why.

Re: Alvin and Seven reporting in ;)
Try massage her? Is this her first time go grooming? Maybe she is not used to it yet. And, please check if it is bleeding in her nails, check is there anything sticking to her hind legs.
Re: Alvin and Seven reporting in ;)
i have. but i cant find any. i tried to massage her hind legs and i found that it was extremely ticklish for her... after the initial laugh i'm starting to get worried. coz she's like cant even walk properly.
Re: Alvin and Seven reporting in ;)
normally if my boyboy's leg langgar something thn he will act like that...but after a while will be ok de...do u try to touch or press her legs? did she feel pain?
Re: Alvin and Seven reporting in ;)
if the condition continues better bring Seven for checkup, maybe she falls down at the groomer there ?not so sure.
