I'm always looking for inexpensive ideas for treats and toys for my puppy. These kind of things can really add up in the long run so it's worth it to search for cheaper alternatives. Protein ice cubes are an easy, healthy alternative that you can make yourself. They have just a small amount of meat juice and are mostly water, but Doggy just goes nuts over them.

1. Any time you cook chicken, beef, pork, fish or any other protein, save the drippings. There's usually a couple teaspoons worth on the bottom of the pan.
2. Take an ice cube tray and fill the cubes halfway full with water.
3. Carefully pour the drippings onto the water. It's okay if they're still hot because the water will prevent them from melting the ice cube tray.
4. Freeze and serve! Your ice cubes should look like the picture I took at right.

Note: At first I wondered if the ice cubes could be a choking hazard, but my puppy has never had a problem. And I suspect even if your dog accidently sends the ice cube down the right way, it'll melt shortly anyway and shouldn't be a problem. As always though supervise him with it. On hot days when he's not drinking as much water as he should, you can make these cubes 90 percent water with just a little drippings and he will get some extra water this way. They are also usually good when he's sick and won't eat. As always, it's a good idea to make puppy sit or stay or "down" before he gets a treat.

It wont be too salty if we use the dripping? and i found out my boyboy will throw out something from his mouth if it's too cold...haha

I think it is depends on how you cook? Like the chinese like to cook "pak cham gai" (steam chicken) usually the chicken is tasteless lol... then u got the essense? But Its best to remove the oil before you add to the water to make ice haha...

My girls like to play with ice cube... I was giving plain water one though...

I thought of something, what about this:

add a spoon of honey into water, and dilute it, then make ice?

eh actually we're not suppose to feed our furkids too much beef related products or homecook, because beef are said to be too salty for them and not good for their coat D:

thats why i never dare to feed any beef related food or treats to copper one.. to keep his coat soft and shiny

lamb and chicken should be good enough~
